CEO Speaker Series featuring Russel Pillemer: Data, Opportunities, and Risk in Funds Management

Russel Pillemer is the co-founder and CEO of Pengana Capital Group, a leading funds management group that is publicly listed on the ASX.

Russel co-founded Pengana in 2003 together with Malcolm Turnbull. He has been the company’s Chief Executive Officer since inception.

Prior to founding Pengana, Russel worked in the Investment Banking Division of Goldman Sachs in New York where he specialised in providing advice to funds management businesses. Before moving to New York, he was responsible for leading Goldman Sachs’ Australian Financial Institutions Group.

Russel was previously Chairman (and a co-founder) of Centric Wealth Group and a Principal of Turnbull Pillemer Capital. Russel also previously worked briefly at Ernst & Young whilst completing his accounting qualifications and in the Finance faculty at UNSW. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and has a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) from the University of New South Wales (completed in 1991).

On Monday 11 September 2017, Russel shared his journey from his roots in South Africa through to Goldman Sachs in Sydney and NY, and then to establishing his own business in Australia. He spoke about how data underpins his business, and what he does as a leader to pursue opportunities whilst managing risk. Russel also provided insights into the rapidly growing and evolving world of funds management.
